San Marino - An indication of strong come back ?
My prediction before this race was - "The San Marino grand prix, the first of the European leg, will determine whether Ferrari and Schumi be able to fight back and live up to competition for the remainder of the season"
Well, the race was a stunner till the chequered flag. None of the 30,000 odd Tifosi gathered to watch the race at Imola would have thought that Schumi and Ferrari even stood a a remote chance of a podium finish....owing to the disastrous 2nd qualifier which had moved Schumi to the 13th place on the starting grid.
The new and reliable Ferrari looks awesomely fast. Schumi looked in control throughout the race while he kept lapping a second and half faster than every other driver...including the top runners like Alonso, and Button. Eventually finishing second just about .2 seconds away from the reigning championship leader Alonso. I strongly feel, Alonso is the next Schumi - technically he is just too good. Any other driver would probably have made a mistake if there was such pressure put for 7 successive laps. We saw Kimi loose it all like that last year in the last lap (dont recollect which circuit)....Button did a big mistake that costed him the second place in this race.
While one Ferrari performs, the other missed it badly. Early retirement of Rubens is not a good sign for the new car and its reliability. Similar is the case with other top running teams like Renault and Mc Laren.
Kimi's bad luck continues....his retirement i guess was also a great turning point to the race.
I am hoping the races are even more competitive and Ferrari and Schumi stamp their authority as they did in the earlier seasons.

Its so strange! Before this season fans had lost interest due to the unassailable dominance of Schumacher. at the first three races, fans had little or no interest because Schumacher was not persorming. Imola has changed this and has bought the sport alive. Schumacher is not dominating, but he's back.
I am a die hard Renault fan and am glad Schumi is back. Now Renault will compete against a worthy opponent.

Absolutely true. The races get boring if there is no competition. Michael Schumacher was a run away success...and his only competitor for the first 10 - 12 races in the last season was his team mate Barichello.
This year in the first 4 races there was no competition from the Ferarris, others could not match the Renaults.
Any game is best appreciated when there are worthy and strong contenders. Best example of a monopoly and no-competition is again Aussie's in Cricket. When you know the result of a game much before it's played...the game isn't worth watching to check out what margin did someone win by.
What Say?

Yes!
The race at San Marino did indicate a strong come back by the Ferrari and Schumi.
We'll just have to wait and see if this continues in the next couple of races. If that happens, then we have a great racing season for year ahead.
Spanish Grand Prix is just Five days away...and am eager to see if Schumi can beat Alonso in his home Circuit?
Or will the Spaniard reign supreme again?
